Quick Stop in Takamatsu
Takamatsu sits at the entrance to Shikoku Island from mainland Japan. After leaving Hiroshimo, I decided to stop off here to spend the evening before leaving the mainland. It is supposedly a castle town with beautiful walking gardens, but as I arrived late at night in the pouring rain, I didn’t really get a chance to take in much of the local sights.
Upon my arrival I went on the hunt for food (as per usual!), and came across a small local restaurant where I ate sushi and drank Kirin until my heart was content. I got the feeling that, despite being a popular jumping off point for Shikoku Island, the locals weren’t entirely used to seeing “gaijin”, or “outsiders”, but still enjoyed having us in their local establishment, as demonstrated by the smiles and the sushi chef who gave me free ice cream (clearly understanding the way to any westerner’s heart is through her stomach!).
